In short, yes.
There is an age limit to climbing Everest. You see, you can climb Everest from the Southern route from Nepal or the Northern route from Tibet. So, the rules for an age limit to climb Everest in entirely different countries, China and Nepal, also vary.
In Nepal, the southern route to climb Everest, you must be sixteen. However, Nepal doesn’t have an upper age limit meaning you can age anything from sixteen to even ninety if you wish to climb Everest from the south.
However, in China, the age limit to climb Everest from the northern route is from eighteen to sixty years old.
How old is too old to climb Everest?
Min Bahadur Sherchan, an eighty-five-year-old mountaineer in Nepal, attempted to climb Mount Everest on May 6, 2017. He did so because he wanted to become the oldest person in the world to climb Mount Everest.
However, he died of a heart attack at Everest Base Camp. Many people said that even though Sherchan was in good health, he couldn’t climb Everest because he was too old. The following instance has made people think there should be an upper age limit to climb Everest.
Although China bars the line of ascending Everest at sixty years old, Nepal doesn’t have such a bar, and any person above sixteen is eligible to climb Mt. Everest. Also, if we look at the statistics, younger people are less likely to die while climbing Mount Everest than those older than fifty.
So, the Governments of Nepal and China should make proper age limits mandatory in the Everest climbing region.

Jordan Romero is the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest. He was only thirteen years old when she successfully reached Everest’s summit on June 10, 2010.
Paul Ramero, his father, and Karen Lundgrenshe, his stepmother, accompanied him and three other Nepali Sherpas during his ascent. Before, Romero, a sixteen years old Nepali boy, was the youngest to climb Everest.
